How to solve error messages in meviy: a few examples

meviy is indeed a powerful tool that offers automatic quotations for custom parts within seconds, shortening the procurement process for designers and purchasing managers.

Nonetheless, to get the best out of the meviy experience, it is indispensable to get to know more in depth the platform and how to make the best design to avoid burdensome edits from your end.

It might happen, in fact, that meviy fails to read your design and, as a result, you won’t get an automatic quotation. Finding a solution to the design errors is not always easy, but we are here to help. Here you can find the two most common design mistakes and our explanation on how to solve errors in meviy to get your quotation.

Error messages in meviy for machined plates: “Pocket angle not machinable”

To understand what the “Pocket angle not machinable” error message is, we need to dive deeper into meviy’s manufacturing techniques for machined plates: 3-axis vertical machining
This is a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) based technology that sees a cutting tool, called end mill, rotating on an X,Y,Z axis to remove material from a workpiece in order to obtain the desired shape.

For parts with machining pockets, like the example below, right angles cannot be processed due to the cutting end mill movement. As we upload the 3D CAD with right angles and get into the 3D viewer, we can in fact see that meviy informs us of an error.  In the case of a right angle with 4 closed corners, the error can be easily eliminated by adding a radius to the corners to allow the end mill to operate and create the final workpiece.

Editing the 3D drawing by taking this small thing into consideration, will allow you to get your automatic quotation and benefit from the meviy’s advantages!

Error message for sheet metals: “Distance between bend and notch shape is too close”

Design mistakes might of course happen also for sheet metals, and the most common one is: “Distance between bend and notch shape is too close”. Let’s see how to easily solve this error in meviy by observing the next 3D CAD.

Depending on the material and thickness, in fact, the tip of the notch and the bend might be too close. Manufacturing machines, unfortunately, cannot process such designs, but the solution is quite easy: correct the distance between the bend and the notch as suggested by meviy and re-upload the 3D CAD. Now meviy can successfully process your design and provide you with an automatic quotation for your custom part.

Small changes make your automatic quotation possible

Unfortunately, errors while reading your 3D CAD might happen, but this does not mean that your part can not be processed by meviy! As we have seen for both machined plates and sheet metals, small changes in design can solve these errors, allowing meviy to provide you with an automatic quotation and lead time for delivery.
