meviy Introduces Support for Angled Holes in CNC Milled Parts
meviy has expanded its CNC milling capabilities to include angled (diagonal) holes. This update removes a long-standing limitation in the Automatic Quoting (AQ) system, allowing engineers to instantly order parts with holes that aren’t perpendicular to the XYZ axes.
Greater design freedom for CNC milled parts
Until now, angled holes presented a common challenge in CNC milling. They were often flagged as unmanufacturable in automated quoting, forcing engineers to spend time redesigning parts or manually coordinating with suppliers.
With the new angled hole support, meviy can now handle perpendicular holes on inclined and curved surfaces, covering approximately 95% of angled hole demand across metals and resins (excluding Bakelite and urethane). Engineers can now iterate designs faster, with fewer errors and greater confidence in manufacturability.
Technical Specifications
- Materials: Steel, Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Resins (excluding Bakelite/urethane)
- Size Range: 10×10×5 mm up to 450×250×70 mm (covers 95.2% of demand)
- Tolerances: Surface-to-hole and hole-to-hole tolerances configurable; edge-to-hole tolerance not supported
- Surface Treatments: Same as existing parts (excluding nitriding)
- Lead Times: Same as existing parts (Rapid Shipment not available)
At launch, stepped holes and angled holes that require MSIM processing are excluded. Future updates will expand coverage further.
More Freedom in Design, More Confidence in Manufacturing
meviy continues to remove procurement bottlenecks by offering practical and precise digital manufacturing solutions. The angled hole feature reinforces meviy’s commitment to making CNC milling easier, faster, and more reliable.
What is meviy
meviy is an AI-powered on-demand manufacturing platform from MISUMI. Engineers can upload 3D CAD models to receive instant quotations, manufacturability checks, and lead time estimates. The platform delivers bespoke components to exact specifications across CNC milling, CNC Turning and Sheet Metals. With no minimum order quantity, teams can order from a single part upwards. By streamlining procurement and accelerating product development, meviy enables engineers to bring designs to life faster. Its AI also supports part recognition, interactive design editing, and compatibility with a wide range of materials – making it a smart and reliable tool for modern product development. Backed by MISUMI’s quality standards, customers can expect consistent precision with every order.
FAQ
1. What are angled holes in CNC milling?
Angled holes (also called diagonal holes) are holes drilled at an inclination rather than perpendicular to the standard XYZ axes. They’re commonly used in mechanical parts requiring specific assembly angles, fluid channels, or complex geometries.
2. Can meviy automatically quote CNC milled parts with angled holes?
Yes. With the latest update, meviy’s Automatic Quoting (AQ) system now supports angled holes in CNC milled parts. Engineers can upload 3D CAD models and instantly receive quotations and manufacturability feedback without manual intervention.
3. What materials support angled hole machining on meviy?
Angled holes are supported for metals such as steel, aluminium, and stainless steel, as well as most engineering resins. Bakelite and urethane are currently excluded due to material-specific processing limitations.
4. Are there any design limitations for angled holes on meviy?
Stepped holes and angled holes requiring MSIM processing are not yet supported. Additionally, edge-to-hole tolerances cannot be specified, and Rapid Shipment is unavailable for these parts.
5. How does angled hole support improve CNC design and manufacturing?
This feature gives engineers greater design freedom by eliminating the need to redesign parts for manufacturability. It streamlines the workflow from CAD upload to production, reducing lead times and simplifying procurement.
