July update: two sheet metal fixes that affect your upload results

If you work with welded sheet metal designs or apply PMI annotations to complex surfaces, two changes in the July release directly affect how your parts are processed on meviy.

Neither change requires you to alter your CAD workflow. Both address platform-side limitations that were causing valid designs to fail or be restricted.

Weld area recognition: what was failing and what has changed

Until now, meviy used a fixed 0.15 mm gap threshold to identify weld areas. That threshold did not match the default gap widths that standard CAD tools produce.

If you built a welded assembly in SolidWorks, CATIA, Fusion 360, or Inventor using default settings, there was a reasonable chance the platform rejected it, even if the geometry was correct. Most users who hit this error did not resubmit.

The July update changes how the recognition engine handles these gaps. The threshold now adjusts dynamically, scaling to plate thickness multiplied by two. Where gaps fall within the qualifying range, the platform automatically corrects them to 0.1 mm during processing.

In practical terms:

  • Welded designs built with default CAD gap settings now pass through to automatic quotation.
  • Previously rejected assemblies can be resubmitted without any model changes.
  • Internal data shows a positive improvement in automatic quotation rate on affected sheet metal models.

This fix applies to Blue and Yellow weld categories. Red and complex geometry remain outside the scope of this release.

PMI on non-supported shapes: what you can now annotate

Designers applying tolerances, surface roughness specifications, grinding and polishing callouts, or geometric tolerances to R-surfaces or inclined faces were previously blocked at the upload stage. Those surface types simply were not supported.

As of July, they are.

Parts with PMI annotations on these surfaces now route to Manual Quote rather than returning an error. This is a coverage improvement. The route to Manual Quote means turnaround will differ from Automatic Quote, so factor that into your timeline if these surface types are relevant to your work.

The supported annotation types on previously excluded surfaces are:

  • Dimensional tolerances
  • Surface roughness specifications
  • Grinding and polishing callouts
  • Geometric tolerances

Who these changes apply to

Weld recognition improvement: relevant if you upload welded sheet metal assemblies built in standard CAD tools and have experienced upload errors you could not diagnose. If a design was previously rejected, resubmit without changes.

PMI on non-supported shapes: relevant if your designs include R-surfaces or inclined faces with tolerance or roughness annotations that previously could not be applied within the platform.

Free Delivery extended until 30 September

Take advantage of our free freight promotion, now extended until 30 September. Any orders placed during this period qualify for complimentary delivery. If you have designs awaiting approval, revision, or submission, now is an ideal time to move them forward and reduce overall project costs.

Keep projects moving this summer

Manufacturing doesn’t stop for summer, and neither does meviy. While your business may be operating with reduced staffing or holiday schedules, our platform continues to process orders as normal, helping you maintain momentum and avoid delays. To support your summer production plans, we’re also offering a €200 Summer Continuity Pass.
